A massacre occurs every day in Maricopa County. On average 85 animals are euthanized in the county pounds every day. In 2006, 56% of the animals that went to the pound, were killed*.
People are far too willing to give up on their pets. They dump them at pound, with strangers, on the street or in the desert. Their reasons vary but are stark reminders of the lack of responsibility and commitment some people have for animals who are dependent upon them for their very lives. They include but are not limited to: “I’m moving,” “I don’t have time for the pet,” “The dog is barking, digging, chewing, etc.,” and many, many more.
