The Stop the Massacre campaign was started by Josephine Morris in 2007 in an effort to raise awareness about the large number of animals euthanized in kill shelters throughout Maricopa County. Josephine believes this horrific treatment of animals is a preventable problem.
The goal of Stop the Massacre is to erase the ignorance surrounding pet abandonment and to educate people about the enormous number of loving dogs and cats who are killed in Maricopa County public shelters every day. As the MASSACRE begins to decline, people grasp the importance of responsible pet ownership and the campaign begins to make real changes in euthanasia rates, the campaign will be implemented in other counties across the country.
